Go to The Narrows river

1. Leave town toward The Narrows and head for the river south of the Museum.
2. Check the water near Errol's Cabin and the river bends below the Museum bridge.
3. Look for green, grass-like shoots growing in the water rather than a dry-land nut tree.
4. Interact with each visible shoot to harvest it.
5. Repeat the river route after the forage respawns if you need more.

Check the season before searching

• Available: Spring, Summer, and Fall.
• Unavailable as a normal forage: Winter.
• Balor's Wagon can offer one in rotating stock for 25t according to the current wiki, but the river route is the dependable target to check first.

Do not confuse three different chestnuts

Water Chestnut is the green water forage in The Narrows. It is not the ordinary Fall Chestnut and not the Lava Chestnut found through different progression. Verify the full item name before leaving the route or using a stored stack.
